The following explorations were created with p5.js coding and Adobe After Effects.
Slack Logo Animation
The goal of the “Variable Shapes” project was to take a logo that included at least 3 shapes and code it to move according to the brand’s message.
For Slack, I animated the logo to mimic the conversations that would happen on the messaging platform. Conversation bubbles up, slows down, and sometimes, gets complicated.
Wordmark Animation
The goal of this animation was to visualize the narrative of women’s lacrosse players overcoming the sexism they face as a result of the feminine stereotypes that make our sport so different.
I chose to reference the yellow women’s lacrosse ball as a “character” taking up space and overcoming the white spots on the screen which reference men’s lacrosse’s white ball.
Name Animation
For my name animation, I wanted to visualize my design process. As such, I took shape and color and used them as a narrative that follows how a project develops in my mind. My process typically starts off very sporadic with lots of ideation and slowly,
I narrow it down to my finals.
From these ideas I continue to make even more iterations until the final versions show themselves. I’ve always started super high level, but ended very specific and meaningful.
Generative Shapes
This design is a playful mixture of shape which randomly generates at varying scales at mouse click. My goal was for the image to become 3D because of the use of two blue colors alongside a highlight. As a result, the dark blue shapes make the light blue shapes appear forward. Triangles of a third blue attach to squares to appear as a shadow.
